rainy day activities

it has been unusually rainy here in our typically scorching state. john and i just cannot believe all the rain and the reprieve from heat. while we appreciate this kindness towards our water and a/c bill, rain sometimes poses a challenge to us as parents of 5 and 3 year old boys.

so what were our rainy day activities you ask?

"go put on your trunks and out you go!"

they literally just ran around in circles outside they were so excited. i think they had a good time until they realized how cold they were from the rain and cooler temperatures.




so later in the day we decided to try out a new brownie recipe compliments of my friend allison. john loves her brownies and begged ridiculously for the recipe so we could make some of our own. thanks allison for sharing your recipe!

the boys love to help me cook and admittedly i don't let them help me enough in the kitchen. my type A personality comes out even there and it makes me crazy when there is a mess but they did a pretty good job today.

they loved unwrapping the caramels while i mixed up the other ingredients, especially since i let them eat a piece while they unwrapped them.

then they also enjoyed dropping in the milk chocolate chips, partly because they ate some of those too!

here they are taste-testing the first ones out of the pan.

and the verdict is.....delicious!

all that running in the rain and baking in the kitchen wore them out!
